Spotlight: LA Mas, Wayfinding at the Frogtown Artwalk

LA-Más is a Frogtown based urban design non-profit that uses policy and architecture to create community impact. We envision a world where city growth is sustainable, inclusive, and self-directed. Our mission is to elevate local models of growth  to help neighborhoods in transition. We aspire to create local economic development and elevate solutions to a city-wide scale.

The LA-Más team is excited to be designing the marker system for the Frogtown Artwalk, for the third year in a row.  Previous designs have included ephemeral wayfinding concepts and olympics-inspired supergraphics. For 2016, our proposal is home grown, in the front yards of the local residents of Frogtown. Wild succulents and cacti are some of the more prominent natural landmarks of the neighborhood and create an informal wayfinding, already present, in the neighborhood.

Through the use of materials like plexi-glass and el wire, these numbers will come alive for the 2016 Frogtown Artwalk. And, host sites will be the recipient of these cacti-inspired numbers, giving these pieces a home beyond the one day event!
